Hannah Golightly linked to the Cold War Kids, noting the “punky” use of piano
which I initially likened to Aladdin Sane
which is one of those songs that makes you want to learn how to play piano.
By turn, it then put me in mind of my all-time favourite Madonna song, Nothing Really Matters, which also “does a Bowie” – but in typical William Orbit style, it’s subtle and brief. It’s what I love about Ray of Light: nothing is overplayed. It just hints and teases, showing off its compositional excellence in oblique flashes like one of those pretentious pieces of yuppie jewellery where the diamonds are on the inside.
I do love it, though.
