Forget for just one tiny moment that Jon Bon Jovi is a plastic giant tw*t and listen for a bit. You can’t deny the exuberant charm of the song – any more than you can deny that a BK double-bacon-cheeseburger is bloody delicious. Yes, it’s a greasy piece of crap that will give you a coronary if you consume it too often (not sure we’re still talking burgers here), but – once in a while – it’s fun.
Livin’ On A Prayer was the second single from 1986′s Slippery When Wet, and was the band’s first number one single. The original version of the song (which appears on the boxed set 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can’t Be Wrong) was rejected by Jon Bon Jovi, so Richie Sambora talked him into reworking it with new percussion and bass.
The famous video with Jovi dangling from a harness was shot at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. It was voted number one on VH1′s list of the 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s, which doesn’t really mean anything one way or the other. I mean, don’t you just hate this trend for listmaking? So effing lazy.
