#musicmonday: Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Move This Mountain

Read My Lips is the album I listened most to in 2001/02. It’s a surprisingly sophisticated blend of old-school disco and 80s-style adult oriented pop, and spawned four top 20 hits. Apparently her old band theaudience were formed as part of a bet with Everett True that they could be famous or something.

Sophie releases her fourth album in April.

This was the other track of the double-A side, which more represents the breezy dancefloor-fillers with which she is associated. I should say something about her voice: slightly raspy, slightly Cockney, but also quite posh. Unaffected. Distinctive. Probably unique. You’ll know it when you hear it.
