Beavis & Butt-Head

Beavis and Butt-Head

“If you’re the kind of dedicated, determined Beavis and Butt-Head fan who eagerly bought volumes 1, 2 and 3 of Beavis and Butt-Head: The Mike Judge Collection, well, uh … you just got screwed. Uh huh huh. Dumbass.”

With liner notes like that, you can have a fair idea of what you’ve let yourself in for with the 10-CD boxed set, which features episodes from the series and the fabulously funny Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. It’s probably the most welcome surprise I’ve ever had with a film – a movie that’s not just entertaining, but infinitely funnier than the series from which it came. It’s spit-take stuff-coming-out-of-your-nose quote-it-forever funny. The included doc said they originally envisaged it as a live action film, which I suppose would have turned out a lot like Dumb & Dumber – which still holds my card for the funniest film I’ve ever seen.

That’s the big obvious quotable bit, so I was surprised watching it at just how many lines we absent-mindedly quote in our house. “You dumbass!” being one, and “hurhurhurh you said-” for another.

You’ve probably seen an episode or two of the series, and will either love it or loathe it – but even though I always felt indifferent to the TV show, I can just watch the film over and over and it’s still moronically hilarious. It features Bruce Willis and Demi Moore as a pair of criminals who drag the stupid twosome across America in their nefarious attempts to “do” each other. Hurhurhurhurhurr.

Urhurhurhurhurr … that was cool.
