Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

Jack Black and Kyle Gass – you remember those guys, right?

.

And Liam Lynch, this guy?

.

.

Well, Liam Lynch directed the Pick of Destiny, which was written by him, Jack and Kyle. Meat Loaf is Jack’s dad, and Dave Grohl plays Satan. And the whole thing is played absolutely straight.

It is a very, very, very silly film. Part Dumb & Dumber, part Harold & Kumar, the minimal plot concerns Jack and Kyle’s attempt to steal the pick of destiny – a magical guitar pick that will “supranaturally” invest them with the ability to write songs that don’t suck.

There’s the now-requisite trip sequence (c/f Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle or the Beavis & Butthead movie), the also-obligatory college party sequence, a lot of really bad rock music, and a metal-tastic guitar-off with Satan-AKA-Dave-Grohl. If the sound of that appeals to you, you’ll probably like this.
