I’m still digesting Chewing With Gusto. It sure does make a meal of things. One of those eight course banquety things that goes on till heaven-knows-when and everyone’s fallen asleep into their gravy. I’m still not sure what I think of it, but I know that I like it. I’d call it drug music, but I don’t like to cast aspersions. It’s a big murky soup of a record.
Chewing With Gusto is a collaboration between Chewing Magnetic Tapes and Gusto Extermination Fluid:
Chewing Magnetic Tape is a trio of longtime experimental musicians from Sicily: Fabrizio Bandini, Enzo Mazzuca and Yobani Romano.
They are sometimes supported by Zuzi Ki (CZ), Nóra Ružičková (SK) and Mary Rath (USA).
Gusto Extermination Fluid is the solo project of British electronic and computer musician/producer Paul Taylor.
Chewing With Gusto Vol. 1 contains 7 tracks, each combining CMT’s raw and fuzzy blend of experimentalism, psychedelia and pop music with GEF’s lush electronic treatments.
The resulting compositions deliver an intriguing sense of strangeness with a unique epic edge, like parade music of alien civilizations.
I’ll have to review this properly at some point, but I’ll need to hear it a good few more times first.
Really get my teeth into it.
